Small Business Support
While I love my endeavors exploring the tax code, the foundation of my education and continued knowledge lies in accounting. Debits and credits, reconciliations to your bank statements and source documents, and keeping up with your payroll – these are all things I can do.
But what about when it’s year end, and you need to know which vendors require a 1099, and how to get their information? Or when you’re a sole proprietor who maybe wants to elect S-corp treatment – and you want to know when this is a good idea, how to do it, and how to cost-effectively run simple payroll for just yourself after the election has been made? Or, maybe you’ve purchased some new assets – and you need to know whether they need to be either capitalized or expensed, and how to depreciate them in the most tax-advantaged and tax-compliant way.
As a tax professional, I’ve been acquainted with many talented entrepreneurs and professional bookkeepers who do a good job maintaining the general ledger all year, and at year-end I ask questions, review source documents, and make adjustments to their work so that internal reports match what was reported on returns. If I’m your bookkeeper, however, there’s a back-and-forth that has been eliminated – and potential longstanding issues with the books are eliminated before they start.
The services I offer for entrepreneurs, startups, and small business include:
Full charge bookkeeping – Now accepting new clients who would like to contract long-term, regular service. I am proficient in QuickBooks online as well as other online providers.
Quarterly or mid-year bookkeeping updates for microbusinesses or sole proprietors – For low-volume, low-capital entrepreneurs, sometimes a subscription-based bookkeeping platform isn’t necessary or in the budget, but maintaining an updated file to generate financial reports 1, 2, or 4 times a year is – so I build that file and maintain it periodically, for a lower cost than a subscription to QBO plus my time in data entry would cost.
One-time or periodic consultations for QuickBooks – Clean-up, or review of bookkeeping best practices
S Corp elections, LLC filings / articles, EIN issuances, 1099 preparation – Regulatory filings for sole proprietors or entrepreneurs getting started, shifting their tax designation, or staying in compliance
Tax planning for consequential transactions – Sale of business, sales or purchases of assets
